How much sleep do 6-11 years old need?

Children in this age range need 9-11 hours sleep. So if your child needs to be up at 7am to get ready for school, they need to be in bed before 9pm.

Relaxing before bedtime is important

Make time for quiet activities before bed, like listening to soothing music, reading a story together or making bath time part of your bedtime routine to help your child unwind and relax

Good Sleep Hygiene requires discipline

Try to keep regular sleep times, even on weekends and holidays. Turn tablet and TV's off at least an hour before bedtime and make sure that your child's bedroom is quiet and dimly lit.

Nigh Nigh is the gentle and nurturing experience you’ve been searching for!

We work with many children that suffer sleep associated anxieties. Therapies often include cognitive, behavioural, sleep hygiene and techniques to help children stop frequent waking and fall asleep faster.

Studies show Melatonin is over prescribed and better suited for children with neurodevelopmental disorders. Melatonin can be an effective short term measure used in conjunction with other therapies but we prefer to begin treatment without it. Mostly always kids learn to sleep using therapy alone.

Our aim is to educate you to find and maintain sleep. Sometimes we need to modify therapies and you will likely have many questions. We have found our clients have greater sleep success when they get consistent professional support from us. Our goal for you is to get you or your loved one sleeping for life!

Sleep anxiety is one of the causes of insomnia and it means falling asleep takes a long time and you become their sleep association. Often sleep is disrupted during the night and they rely on you being near instead of being able to resettle independently.

Our Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia helps your child develop new neural pathways to be confident in falling asleep and returning to sleep.

Globally teachers are seeing an increase in children with sleep-related issues that cause problems with concentration, learning, and sometimes in behaviour. Stress has increased since Covid and affects sleep. Thankfully good sleep can be taught and maintained.
